What a solar site survey covers

A good survey answers one question before anyone prices the job: how many panels fit, where the inverter and meter go, and what will make the install slow or unsafe. These are the things the form above asks, in the order you meet them on site.

Site and client

Name, phone, address or pin, and the exact spot on the map so the install team finds the right roof.

Every roof

Type (RCC, tin shed, sloped), length and width or a drawn outline, facing, tilt or slope, parapet, setback and how you get up there.

Shade and obstacles

Water tanks, stair rooms, trees and AC units, with their size and the corner they sit in. They decide where panels cannot go.

Electrical and cables

Sanctioned load, single or three phase, net meter, and the runs from panels to inverter, inverter to ACDB and on to the meter.

What the client wants

Monthly bill, subsidy, panel and inverter brands, budget per Wp and how they will pay: own money, bank loan, opex or PPA.

Photos

Roof, meter, main panel, inverter wall, earthing pit and the bill. A photo answers the questions nobody thought to ask on site.

How to do a rooftop survey in 15 minutes

  1. Pin the site (1 min). Type the client's name, phone and address, then tap Find on the map and drop the pin on their building.
  2. Measure each roof (5 min). Pick RCC, tin shed or sloped. Tape the length and width, or tap Draw roof for an L-shape. Add a roof with + Add another roof.
  3. Mark shade (3 min). Add each water tank, stair room, tree or AC unit with its size and the corner it sits in. Note what shades the roof in the morning and evening.
  4. Check the electrics (3 min). Read the sanctioned load and phase off the bill, look at the meter and the main board, find the earthing pit and pace out the cable run.
  5. Take photos (2 min). Roof from a corner, meter, main panel, inverter wall, earthing pit and the bill.
  6. Share the PDF (1 min). Tap Download PDF and send it on WhatsApp, or sign in to keep it as a site for the BOM and quotation.

Questions installers ask

Is the solar site survey form really free?

Yes. The form and the PDF report are free, with no account and no limit. Signing in is only needed if you want to keep the survey as a site in your company.

Is my survey uploaded anywhere?

No. The answers stay in this browser and photos never leave your device. The map loads picture tiles from Esri and OpenStreetMap, and the map search sends only the words you type to OpenStreetMap.

Can I survey more than one roof?

Yes. Tap + Add another roof for each roof, shed or terrace. Each one gets its own size, type, shade and plan in the report.

Why does a tin shed not ask for the slope?

A tin shed is already sloped and the panels lie on the sheet, so the survey does not ask for a slope or a panel tilt. Sloped tile roofs still ask for the roof slope in degrees.

Does it work for ground-mount projects?

Yes. Pick Ground mount and say whether it is industrial or captive, a PM-KUSUM plant, agri or farm, utility or open access, or custom. The form then asks about the land: who owns it, soil, terrain, water in the rain, the nearest substation, road access and fencing.

How does it work out the number of panels?

It keeps 0.6 m clear from the roof edge, leaves space between rows on RCC roofs and places panels of 2.28 × 1.13 m around the water tank: 545 Wp made-in-India panels for homes taking the subsidy, 590 Wp otherwise and 620 Wp on the ground, as the solar calculator counts them. The size it suggests from the bill is the calculator's too. The final layout comes with the quotation.

Does the report show the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?

For residential projects, yes: ₹30,000 a kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, up to ₹78,000, worked out on the recommended size.

Can I put my company's name on the PDF?

Yes. Type it in Your company and it appears at the top of every page.
